Poornima Rao, MD, is an endocrinologist at Allegheny General Hospital. She received her medical degree from Peoples' Friendship University of Russia in Moscow, Russia and completed her residency in internal medicine at St. Francis Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pa., and a fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. Rao is board-certified through the American Board of Internal Medicine (Endocrinology and Diabetes). She holds professional affiliations with the Endocrine Society and American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. Dr. Rao specializes in endocrinology with an expertise that includes diabetes, endocrine cancer, growth disorders, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, infertility, metabolism disorders and thyroid disease.
