About Zia Cook-Andres

Zia is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She specializes in eating disorders (Binge Eating Disorder Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Other Specified Feeding/Eating Disorders). Zia works with eating disorders at Renfrew Center of Pittsburgh treating those who need a higher level of care. She utilizes evidence based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Relational Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment therapy.  She approaches eating disorders using the Health at Every Size framework, this is a 'continuously evolving alternative to the weight-centered approach to treating clients and patients of all sizes. It is also a movement working to promote size-acceptance, to end weight discrimination, and to lessen the cultural obsession with weight loss and thinness.' Zia believes that through radical self love and unlearning diet culture norms a better relationship with our bodies can be attained. She believes that leaning into difficult emotions allows us to move through them. Above all else, Zia believes allowing ourselves to need, to take up space, and tell our story can move those struggling with eating disorders closer to recovery. “If we can share our story with someone who responds with empathy and understanding, shame can’t survive.”- Sonya Renee Taylor
